The National OHS Regulatory Research Consortium

Of particular importance in the National Centre’s work is its support for a National OHS Regulatory Research Consortium. The aim of the Consortium is to foster, develop and support an interdisciplinary collaborative network of Australian researchers interested in OHS regulation, in order to increase the amount of high quality evidence-based and policy focused research into OHS regulation. The National Centre provides the administrative support for the Consortium. The Centre

  • promotes OHS regulatory research seminar groups in each major Australian city,

  • works with ASCC and other organisations to put on conferences on OHS regulation, and

  • holds an annual OHS regulatory research workshop for Consortium members.

The National Research Centre has links with the OHS Regulatory Research Unit established within the Socio-Legal Research Centre in the Law School at Griffith University. The Unit has begun work on two major research projects. The first, in conjunction with the Queensland Division of Workplace Health and Safety, and funded by the Australian Research Council, is an empirically-based doctoral study of OHS enforcement in Queensland, and the way in which OHS duty holders respond to the various OHS enforcement measures available to Queensland OHS inspectors. The second is an Australian Research Council project which explores the way in which business organisations respond to four aspects of labour regulation: OHS requirements, anti-discrimination and harassment provisions, and unfair dismissal legislation.
